Welcome back to our ''Heart for the House'' series.

I want to talk about the heart this weekend. The emphasis of the series is developing a heart for the house of God.

Part of developing a heart for something or someone is understanding what their heart is. What is IN their heart?

We understand people best when we get to know their hearts. Maybe you've even commented that you ''love a person's heart'' because you came to know what drives their actions.

That is the emphasis of the series we are on, but I want to just talk about the heart this weekend. I'm concerned about your heart.

So, let's talk about the importance of the heart, the dynamics of having a healthy heart and the opponents of the heart.


Proverbs 13:12 (ESV)
12Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
We hear things from people who have ''lost heart'', which is equated with lost hope.

Or the term ''tug on your heart-strings'' which alludes to our emotions and passions, and especially compassion.

More songs have been written about the ''heart'' than any other subject. (Every good country song has a broken heart or tears in my beer, right?)

People are walking through an incredible amount of heart traffic right now. Meaning it's a very heavy disheartening time for folks.

Side Note: A couple of different studies indicate that heavy traffic triples the risk of heart attack!

How many of you are stressed with traffic? How many of you ''lose it'' in traffic?

There is an awful lot of traffic right now. Political traffic, pandemic traffic, divisive traffic, etc. The lights are changing, metrics moving and it's hard to get a grasp on what's solid, hype or truth. (covid comment here?)

There are things that make our heart glad, sad, and mad.
Events, situations, and tragedies that break our hearts.
And people break our hearts!
