Living in the FOG (Favor of God)
Dr. Ernest Easley
Genesis 6:8-9
Have you ever been in a fog where you couldn't see where you going? Perhaps you've been driving along and suddenly drive into a dense fog causing you to slow down or stop.
Years ago, when my sons were very young, we were out deer hunting together and found ourselves in a fog. We couldn't see twenty yards in front of us. It didn't take long before I knew we were wasting our time. So, I came up with the brilliant idea of leaving them in the deer blind on the side of the ridge and climbing to the top of the ridge which was less than one hundred yards.
Once on top, if any deer were up there, I would run them down the ridge toward them and hopefully, they'd get a shot. I really thought it was a good idea. If they didn't see anything within an hour, they were to walk together and meet me at the pond not far from their blind.
But that's not what happened. Once I arrived on the top of the ridge, I slowly began walking along the ridge-line, which I estimated was about two hundred yards long. The fog was so dense that I could see no further than 20 yards.
When I reached what I thought was the end, I knew that if I walked down the side of the ridge, that pond would be at the bottom of the hill where I'd meet my sons and then we'd walk back together to camp for lunch.
Let me tell you that walking in a dense fog has a way to disorientate you. When I reached the bottom of the hill, the pond wasn't there, my sons weren't there and I couldn't see twenty yards. In fact, I looked back and the fog was so dense, I couldn't see the mountain I just walked down.
So, I walked about 50 yards along the bottom of the ridge: no pond, no sons. Then I turned around and walked about 100 yards along the bottom of the ridge in the opposite direction: no pond, no sons.
I stood there in that fog wondering where my sons had moved the pond! I began walking away from where I thought the mountain was until I c ...
