Mary and Joseph (1 of 4)
Series: Characters of Christmas
Jim Perdue
Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38
Intro/Attention
This morning, we're beginning a brand new Christmas series. To be honest, it's a little early for me to start talking about Christmas. I have a rule in our home that we can't celebrate Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Because that's my all-time favorite holiday. Well, the kids will tell you we really don't start celebrating Christmas until after my birthday which is at the end of November.
But, the year 2020 has been so strange and abnormal that I decided we would start this Christmas series today. I hope you're okay with that. If not, tough, we're going there anyways. I'm beginning a series this morning entitled Characters of Christmas.
Today, we're going to begin with two very important characters, Mary and Joseph. And we will look at two different sections of Scripture. I know that's a little different than the way we normally study a passage but we'll be in two places. So, open to Matthew 1 and put your ribbon there, then open to Luke 1 as well. In one section we read a good bit about Joseph and in another section we read a good bit about Mary. READ Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38
*Characters of Christmas - when I first thought of this sermon series I imagined moments in my childhood when I would go look at all of the characters that were set up in the nativity scene. Sometimes I would just stare for a while imagining the scene in real life. This morning, imagine a nativity set laid out right in front of you. Do you see all the characters there? You see the angels, the shepherds, Mary and Joseph, the Wise Men, and of course the center of it all, the baby Jesus. When our kids were little, we bought special nativity scenes that they could play with. Here is Mary and Joseph from the ''Little People'' set that we have. *PIC 1* And, did you know that Veggietales even has it's own nativity set? Here are Mary and Joseph from that se ...
