He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? (Let me start off by asking you a question...who is the hardest person/persons for you to personally love? Why is it hard to love them? What have they done to you to cause you to dislike them so much? Do they deserve your love? Can they earn your love? Think about it for just a moment...now let me tell you...that is who Jesus is talking about, that is who He challenges you to love. Let's start off by talking about the ''God-like'' kind of Love...)
God's EXPECTATION for how His Children Love Others?
(As children our parents taught us a number of things that still stick with us today... ''don't chew with your mouth open'', ''don't talk back'', ''be respectful to your elders'', etc. [have congregation give other examples]...Our heavenly Father also teaches us that there are things He expects us to do as His children...not because we feel like it but because it is right)
Loving others is not out of OBLIGATION it is an act of OBEDIENCE
''Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.''
(The Jewish religious leaders said it was OK to hate those who hated you, God said something totally different...He said as His Kids we did not have the right to hate anyone because He loved all people, so should we)
Loving others is not based on FE ...
