''Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.'' 1 Peter 2:11-12 (NIV)
(As we begin this third message into 1st Peter let me first thank Pastor Chris Litton for preaching for me last week. He did an outstanding job and is doing an outstanding job leading our Adult Ministries at Chets Creek Hodges, along with now leading our College Ministry here. He is an awesome young man and my only other Tiger fan on staff :) which may be a painful thing for both of us this year :).
This morning we are going to look at a great truth that I think many Christians have forgotten these days and here it is...
''How we live before others and with others has a direct correlation to how others think about the Good News of Jesus Christ''
Peter makes this very clear in this letter to the churches. In a day where everyone wants to be noticed and demands respect, where we feel free to tear others down while lifting ourselves up Peter challenges us to live different and reminds us that one day we will have to give an account for how we have lived on earth and how we have loved others on earth...
''For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.'' Romans 12:3 (NIV)
The message this morning from 1st Peter is about humility and submission...not something we know much about in our country but something we as Christians are expected to live out in our every day lives. This is not an easy passage to read, accept and o ...
