Psalm 23:1-6
''The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

(I want you to imagine with me Jesus sitting at His mother's feet and hearing this 23rd Psalm, 1000 years after David, and then coming to realize it was talking about Him. You can see in all that Jesus taught and said that He understood He was the Good Shepherd, we can be His sheep. We also realize that His sheep follow him, those that don't are called wolves or goats...)
The Lord is MY SHEPHERD
''I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep.'' John 10:14-15 (NIV)
(It's important to understand that David wrote this Psalm 1000 years before Jesus came to earth but it is clearly about Jesus. David wrote this at the end of his life, after going through the ups and downs of his life. David had grown to understand that God was His Shepherd.
I want you to notice a couple of things before we go any farther. 1) the word Lord used here is the word YAWEH, this word for LORD was so holy that the Jews only wrote it down, never spoke it, and when they wrote it they would only write it with a new pen and new ink. This is the personal name of God. 2) Notice that David didn't say the Lord is A Shepherd or He is THE Shepherd, but the Lord is MY Shepherd...like the big difference whe ...
