Joshua 5:1-15
This morning we are going to look at what is one of the most recognized stories in the New Testament. Joshua chapter 6 is the story of the Battle of Jericho, where the Israelite Army marched around the walls of Jericho once a day for 6 days then they marched around it the 7th day7 times and the walls fell down and the army then destroyed the city. That was the beginning of the conquest of the Promised Land but that is not the whole story.
To understand Chapter 6 you have to understand Chapter 5, in fact Chapter 6 would have never happened if Joshua hadn't led the people to properly prepare and that is the message for you...so many times we get so busy to get everything done, we run and move from one thing to the next, so many things to do and to be involved in without realizing there may be something missing. This morning I would like to challenge each of us to look inside and see if we are making proper preparation in our lives, making first things first so that we don't miss the Miracles of God...but before we go any further, let's PRAY.
Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan before the Israelites until we had crossed over, their hearts melted and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites.
At that time the Lord said to Joshua, 'Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again.' So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath Haaraloth. Now this is why he did so: All those who came out of Egypt--all the men of military age--died in the desert on the way after leaving Egypt. All the people that came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the desert during the journey from Egypt had not. The Israelites had moved about in the desert forty years until all the men who were of military age when they left Egypt h ...
