If you are anything like me, you have looked around our nation at all the confusion, pain, fear, hate, deception, violence, lies, and desperation and repeatedly asked yourself 'what can we do'? All of it seems so massive, heavy, convoluted, and overwhelming that nothing seems to answer this question with any satisfaction.

Today, I want to suggest where each of us can start and probably needs to start. I also think every church, including our own, should start here. Where? Hold on for just a moment. We will get there.

You've probably heard it said: When a person is squeezed by life, whatever is on the inside of them comes out. And it's true. When we're pressed and squeezed by difficult circumstances, challenging decisions, and stressful situations the real us comes out of us in our words, our attitudes, and our actions.

What's true for individuals is also true for nations. When a nation of people as a whole is pressed and squeezed by disease and death, a loss of jobs, an unstable future, financial insecurity, and government upheaval, whatever is on the inside of them can't help but come gushing out. It doesn't take long of watching the news, or perusing the internet, or reading status' on Facebook to recognize that what is oozing out of America right now is pretty awful and ugly.

Though some people seem shocked and surprised, the stuff we're seeing isn't really new. The sin running rampant didn't just appear. The hate, and contention, and deep division we're experiencing haven't developed overnight. It's been inside of us and inside of our country for a long time, but we have allowed perceived prosperity and temporary tranquility to shield our national eyes from the truth of what is really going on within us and around us.

Right now, people are hungry for answers and searching for solutions. And there is no shortage of people throwing out opinions and options of what we sh ...
