Theme: ''Jacob and his heavenly encounter at Jabbok''
The story of Jacob is wonderful, his life is documented throughout the book of Genesis, in actuality, and the story of his life is documented more than Abraham or Isaac. Jacob was a man of many colors; he burst forth from the womb grasping the heel of his brother. He was a heel grabber, he was schemer, and he was a deceiver.
Jacob got his scheming ways from his mother's side of the family and the apple did not fall far from the tree. We watch his story play out as he tries to steal the blessing of the firstborn from his brother. With the help of his mother, they are able to deceive Isaac into placing the blessing upon him. Of course this upset Esau and he was deadest on taking out revenge upon Jacob.
Jacob heads off to live with his mother's family, back in Haran, while there he meets his match, in his uncle Laban, who is also a schemer and a deceiver. After twenty some of years of living in Haran, Jacob decides to head home, he is heading back to the Land of Canaan. He arrived with only the staff in his hand, but he left with two wives, numerous sons, and more animals than can be mentioned here. He left out as a rich man, and Jacob is heading home.
As he heads for home, Jacob receives news that his long lost brother is coming to see him, and they have not so much as talked since that day when he had deceived his brother and schemed against him. The old Jacob begins to take over and he plans on trying to appease Esau with a large amount of gifts.
Jacob devises a scheme to appease his brother, hopefully they will all be spared, but if not at least Rachel and her kids.
