Revelation 2:18-29
Intro/Attention
As we continue our study in the Book of Revelation, we come to the fourth of the ''seven churches'' in Revelation 2-3, the church in ''Thyatira.'' We first saw the church at ''Ephesus'' and considered what happens When a Church Loses its Passion. This was the church that ''abandoned the love [they] had at first.'' Then, we studied the church at ''Smyrna'' and discovered what occurs When a Church Faces Persecution. The key phrase in that passage was ''be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.'' The church at Pergamum showed us what happens When A Church Remains Persistent. The key phrase in this passage is, ''Yet you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith...''
Tonight, we come to the church at ''Thyatira'' in Revelation 2:18-29 and we see what happens When A Church Ignores Its Problems. The key phrase I want you to notice is found in verse 20, ''you tolerate that woman Jezebel...'' Sadly, this was a church that tolerated sin, ignored its problems, and turned a blind eye to false teachers.
What we will discover as we study these churches is that there is a progressive worsening in the character of these seven churches, as they depict becoming more and more influenced by evil. That downward spiral reached its lowest point at Laodicea. READ TEXT

The Pergamum church existed at the site of ''Satan's throne'' (2:13), symbolizing Gentile false religion (particularly the cult of emperor worship). But the church at Thyatira had plunged headlong into the very depths of satanic deception. The letter to this church is the longest of the seven, though addressed to the church in th ...
