Meeting the Banner of God - Jehovah-Nissi (5 of 14)
Series: Names of God
David Davis
Exodus 17:8-16
Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world at an early age in life. He was one of the military leaders who made the decision to not leave the dead or the wounded during a battle. All others would leave their soldiers - dead or alive. With that kind of commitment - he also demanded loyalty from his soldiers. His men were loyal to him - to the cause - and loyal to death in the battle.
Once - a captain in his army was brought to him with the charge of disloyalty. It wasn't because of an attitude of mutiny - but it was his questioning the tactics and strategies of Alexander the Great. The man was brought to Alexander the Great to give an answer. Alexander asked - ''What is your name?'' The captain said - ''Sir, my name is also Alexander.'' You must either change your name or change the way you behave.''
There are many of you who name the name of Jesus. If you were asked if you were a Christian - you would say ''yes.'' If you were asked if you were going to heaven - again you would say ''yes''
However, it is true that the banner we fly does not speak accurately about the person we are.
''What we do'' is in evidence of ''who we are''. If someone watched you closely - they should never have to ask if you name the name of Jesus.
Is the banner you fly telling the truth about the person you are?
Jehovah-Nissi - ''The LORD is my banner.'' A banner is a standard that tells who's you are and all that you believe and what and who you stand for.
