Come Home for Christmas
Lenny Ports
Luke 15:11
Christmas is our favorite time of year. It is a time when we gather together with the added blessings of gifts that come. We have found that Christmas is not about getting, but about giving. It is so much more blessed to give than to receive, even though there is nothing wrong with receiving, and some of you need to learn how to receive. If someone gives you a gift, RECEIVE IT, it is your blessing. Even if there were no gifts, we just love being home together, spending time with each other. Time is precious and Christmas gives us the opportunity to spend it well.
Galatians 4:4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. 6 And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, ''Abba, Father.'' 7 Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. (NLT)
Before Christ came, we were far from home, slaves of sin. On Christmas 2000 years ago, Jesus came to buy us back (or redeem us), in order that He could adopt us into His family and make us His children. He brought us HOME. Now we call Him Father and have become His heirs (those who would receive an inheritance).
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Home can mean a whole lot of different things to different people. It could be a mansion in Beverly Hills or a cardboard box in the slums of New York City. But ultimately, when we come home to Jesus, we find our true home. We find family. We find love. We find acceptance. We find protection. We find refuge. We find PEACE. You may feel like you are far from God at this time i ...
