I. Introduction

Welcome to Mission Hills and to part number two of When Chaos Comes Calling. Last week was part number one, when Daniel shifted from being a book of mostly stories to being mostly apocalyptic visions. Now, last week, I shared some important things to understand about apocalyptic writing like we find here in Daniel. We don't have time to cover that same ground again today, but if you want to understand how to understand stuff like we find in Daniel 8 that we'll be looking at today, I'd strongly recommend that you go back and listen to the first part of that message. But we're going to go ahead and dive straight in today, because we've got a lot to cover, so why don't you go ahead and grab a Bible and make your way to Daniel 8.

The vision we're going to hear about today is actually an extension of the vision we saw in Daniel 7 last week. Basically, what happens is that God drills down into the second half of that vision and gives us som more detail.

II. Main Body

A. The Vision

In the third year of King Belshazzar's reign, I, Daniel, had a vision, after the one that had already appeared to me. (Dan. 8:1)

The key thing to understand here is that Daniel received this vision...and the one we looked at last week...when he was suffering. Daniel was suffering because he was friendless, powerless and clueless about the future. He was friendless because the people who had been taken to Babylon with him had died by this point. He was powerless because, even though he had risen to a position of power and influence under Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar was dead and his grandsoan, Belshazzar had kicked him to the curb.
