Hey, welcome to Mission Hills for our last week in the book of Daniel. And can I just say that I think this might be the hardest sermon I've ever preached? It's not that it's particularly controversial...it's just complicated. Trying to understand what's happening here and communicate it clearly and in a way that makes a difference in our lives has just been really challenging.
Part of the challenge is just due to the fact that this last part of Daniel is prophecy and prophecy is always challenging. But it's made worse because something really strange happens in the last couple of chapters of Daniel. One the one hand, as we've seen throughout this series, most of what Daniel predicted was fulfilled in the events leading up to the Second Century B.C. But on the other hand, especially in chapters 11 and 12, Daniel seems to be seeing events of the Second Century and also something that would come later...something somehow bigger than the events of the Second Century.

And that really seems to be a prophecy about a Syrian king named Antiochus Epiphanes who brought a lot of persecution and oppression on God's people in the Second Century.
But I got a couple of great questions from people this week who said ''I'm a little confused. I mean, I see how those predictions really fit Antiochus Epiphanes...it's way too precise to be a coincidence...but, my Study Bible - or this other Christian teacher - says these are descriptions of the Antichrist, you know, that terrible person who will oppress and persecute God's people right before the Second Co ...
