This morning we are kicking off our Christmas season at Edge Church. During the next few weeks our theme will be I Love Christmas.
I love Christmas for so many reasons. I love Christmas music-maybe you've got a little playlist on your phone or on your gadget where you listen to songs like ''Santa Baby'' by Madonna. Maybe that's one of your favorites. Mariah Carey has a great Christmas album. One of her songs is ''All I Want for Christmas Is You.'' I'm not sure if it's about Christmas, but it's great Christmas music.
We love to watch Christmas movies at the Heller household. We begin the season by watching Elf, with Will Ferrell. We really get into the spirit of Christmas when we do that. Maybe you watch It's a Wonderful Life, or Home Alone or some of the other classic movies.
There's Christmas décor. We put up the Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving. We pull out all the ornaments. Christmas ornaments kind of tell the story of a family. This year I was walking through them with the kids, saying, ''Your grandmother gave you this in 2010. You were watching Handy Manny on TV, and here's your Handy Manny Christmas ornament. And here's Star Wars'' . . . and you could tell the chronology of the family. That's really fun, isn't it?
Holiday foods. It would be kind of weird to drink a pumpkin spice latte in July, but boy, it's good in December, isn't it? There are all kinds of special cookies, and all kinds of things we look forward to. I hope you have some traditions in your family that you look forward to during this time of year.
Of course, the greatest part of Christmas is not cookies, and movies and songs. It's Jesus Christ. We wouldn't have anything without Jesus Christ. He is the beginning. He is the end. He is our every . . . thing. This morning I want to pr ...
