Several years ago, Gena and I were going through a time where we had been really hurt by some people. A friend of mine encouraged me to see a Christian counselor. My immediate thought was that's the last thing that I want to go do is talk to a counselor because I had seen all the movies. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, What About Bob and Couples Retreat (that one really messed me up). I was very skeptical about seeking help. I thought they were going to have me lay on a couch and hook me up to an IV. But I actually found that talking with a Christian counselor was one of the greatest blessings. Through this experience, I gained so much wisdom and insight. My favorite part of talking with the Christian counselor was experiencing his empathy. As I talked with him, he understood where I was coming from, almost like he had experienced the same things himself. ??
When I think about our text, I think about talking to a counselor. In fact, the term counselor is actually referred to as one of the names of Jesus. The Bible uses 700 different names to describe Jesus Christ. Can you just imagine having that many names? I mean most of us, if we have a nickname or two, that's normal. But could you imagine having 700 different names? I believe the reason Jesus had so many names is because just one name could not properly express His greatness. One name could not articulate all of His grandeur.
