Hey, welcome to Mission Hills. So glad to have you with us today as we start a new message series call The Good Life.
And before we do anything else, let me just ask you to take a moment to reflect on this question: What comes to mind when you think of the ''good life''? Maybe even take a moment right now just to write down a couple of things that come to mind...and be honest, ok? You don't have to share anything with anyone. So don't allow yourself to give a ''churchy'' answer just because you're in church right now. Be brutally honest. What comes to mind when you think of the good life?
Now if you're anything like me - and I'm just being real honest here - it's very easy to think of the building blocks of the good life in terms of good things we get for ourselves: money, cars, houses, relationships, kids/grandkids, careers, degrees, vacations, experiences, the latest tech, etc. [stack boxes on top of each other for each thing mentioned] But here's the problem: almost anything we can get for ourselves can also be taken away from us. And if the good life consists of good that we get for ourselves, then every time one of these things goes away, [take a box or two off the top of the stack] our experience of the good life is diminished...and in some cases, if the wrong thing goes away {kick the bottom box out] the whole good life things falls completely apart. Which makes the whole ''good life'' thing kind of a house of cards, right? At least as the world defines it.
But what if...what if the good life didn't consist of good things we get for ourselves? And what if, because the good life doesn't consist of good we get for ourselves, it couldn't possibly be taken away from us? What if we could experience the good life even if we never got all the good things we tend to think the good life consists of? What if we could experienc ...
