I. Introduction
I love what Kelly said about focus. She said my focus today is how God has carried me through. That's such a powerful statement about a truth that we're going to lean into today together, which is this: our lives follow our focus. Or lives follow what our minds are focused on just like our bodies follow what are eyes are focused on.
I think my favorite video right now is a video of a lion - he must be in a zoo - and he's walking alongside a ledge that's over a pool of water. And he's not walking real close to the ledge, he's a couple of feet back, but he's looking at something on the other side of the pool. I don't know what it is, but he's totally focused on it. And he's trying to walk this way, but he's looking this way, off to the side of where he's walking. And with each step he takes, he starts sliding a little closer to this ledge, but he doesn't realize it, because he's so focused on whatever this is over here...and then, after a few he's right at the very edge of the ledge, but he doesn't know it, and his next step ends up in mid-air then...this majestic, proud, ferocious king of the beasts starts freaking out and failing around, but it's too late...he takes an accidental bath and comes up looking like a half-drowned kitten.
That's what I'm talking about: our lives follow our focus. We inevitably, but often imperceptibly, drift towards what we're focusing on in life. We might say we're headed here...but if we're actually focused over there...that's where we're going to end up. And so the question I want us to ask ourselves today is this: What's my focus? Because if our lives follow our focus, then our focus determines the kind of life we'll experience.
Now we're in a series right now called the Good Life and here's what we know. We know that there are two very different definitions of the good life that we all have to wrestle with. The world s ...
