Eager To Do Good (3 of 4)
Series: The Good Life
Craig Smith
Titus 2: 1-14
I. Introduction
So, can I tell you about the scariest day of my life? It was June 10, 1999...the day Coletta and I took our first daughter home from the hospital. And let me be clear: she was all we took home with us. There was no instruction manual or educational DVD...just a person...a human being, made in the image of God. They were just like good luck!
I remember driving home, scared about every little bump in the road...but terrified by the realization that I had a person in my life who was going to look up to me. She was going to look up to me because she would assume that I know something about this whole life business. And that was terrifying, but it was also pivotal...because I suddenly realized that if she was going to look up to me, then I needed to be someone worth looking up to.
Today we're going to lean into a passage from God's word that's really all about that, about living a life worth looking up to. And I think it's important that we realize that we all have people who are looking up to us. Maybe you're a parent or maybe you're an older brother or sister or maybe you're a teacher or maybe you're coach or maybe you're a manager or maybe you're a more experienced whatever you are than some of the new employees...or maybe people know that you're a follower of Jesus and they're looking to you to figure out what that's all about. We all have people who are looking to us...the question is: am I living in a way that's worth looking up to?
Why don't you go ahead and grab a bible and start making your way to Titus 2:1. If you're just joining us, here's what you need to know: the Apostle Paul wrote this letter to a man named Titus who was kind of his trouble-shooter. Paul had sent Titus to the island of Crete because some of the churches there were being led off-mission by people teaching things that had nothing to do with the Gospel or with what the church is all ...
