Series: Mission Killers
Craig Smith
Revelation 3:1-6
I. Introduction
Welcome to all our campuses. So glad you're here for week number 5 of our Mission Killers series where we're taking a look at how we identify and overcome the things that are trying to take us off mission with Jesus.
And this is so important, because the moment we say yes to following Jesus, we say yes to following him on mission. And if you've been with us through this whole series you might be getting a little sick of hearing me say that, ok, but I'm not going to apologize...I'm going to keep pounding this drum because the biggest problem the church is facing today is that too many Christians have forgotten that they are the church. The church isn't some place that Christians come to, the church is the followers of Jesus following him on mission in the world.
But...there are dangers we face that are constantly trying to take us off that mission. We've looked at several over the past few weeks. Today we're going to talk about what I think is maybe the most dangerous one....not because it's more powerful than any of the others but simply because it's harder to recognize.
Why don't you go ahead and grab a Bible and make your way to Revelation 3?

So by writing to the angel of the church, Jesus is emphasizing the church's message and its mission. Then he says:
These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. (Rev 3:1b)
Ok, that sounds really mystical, but it's actually p ...
