The Discouragement Dragon (5 of 6)
Series: Mission Killers
Craig Smith
Revelation 3:7-13

I. Introduction

Welcome to all our campuses. So glad you're here for week number 6 of our Mission Killers series where we're taking a look at how we overcome the things that try to take us off mission with Jesus.

And this is so important, because the moment we say yes to following Jesus, we say yes to following him on mission. And if you've been with us through this whole series you might be getting a little sick of hearing me say that, ok, but I'm not going to apologize...I'm going to keep pounding this drum because the biggest problem the church is facing today is that too many Christians have forgotten that they are on mission with Jesus. They've actually fallen prey to one of these mission killers without even realizing its happened. So, like we talked about last time, there are a lot of Zombie Christians out there just going through the motions of following Jesus.

But...today we're going to look at the mission killer I call the Discouragement Dragon. The Discouragement Dragon works by sapping our courage. See, following Jesus - and especially following him on mission - always requires courage. And courage is exactly what the Discouragement Dragon goes after.

Let me be honest, this is a mission killer that I'm vulnerable to. I have to fight off discouragement on a pretty regular basis..which is surprising to some people because I'm a pretty hard core optimist...and maybe you are too. But you know what's true about optimists? They are the Discouragement Dragon's favorite snack. So whether you're an optimist or a pessimist, we all have to know how to armor ourselves against this particular mission killer, against the discouragement dragon.

Why don't you go ahead and grab a Bible and make your way to Revelation 3? We'll be picking up in verse 7.
