The Promise of Heaven
Rex Yancey
Luke 23:43

One powerful statement was made between two thieves where one scolded him with the same contempt for truth that led him to a life of crime. The other, in the face of death, realized the error of his way and turned in repentance to say, ''Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.'' Jesus responded, ''Today you will be with me in Paradise.''

The word Heaven is mentioned some 550 times in the Bible. The Bible says, ''God has set eternity in our hearts.'' Job 19:25-26, the oldest book in the Bible says, ''I know my redeemer lives and that he shall stand at the latter day on the earth.''

And though after my skin, worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh I shall see God.''

I believe in the heart of every man there is a hope of heaven.

Fairness says there is a heaven. It would not be fair for the terrorists and a saint of God to go to the same place. ''Shall not the judge of the earth do right?''

Feelings says there is a heaven. The desire for life after death is the oldest and most consistent wish of mankind. Since the beginning of time there has been a nostalgia for Eden.

Faith says there is a heaven. John 14 says ''Let not your heart be troubled.

The Psalmist said, ''I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.''

Peter said, ''We are looking for an inheritance that is incorruptible, that fadeth not away.''

Paul said, ''If the earthly house of this tabernacle is dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.''

Facts suggest there is a heaven. John 14 says, ''In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you unto myself.''

Heaven is marked by the absence of grief. ''God will wipe away all their tears.'' There will be no sorrow, no hospitals, no funeral homes and no Covid 19.
