Who doesn't enjoy a good feast? While Pastoring in Odessa, Texas we met a man named Jesse Gore, his wife Penny and their three sons, and oh yes, their dachshund named Samson. They soon became a part of our extended Easley family.
Every time we entered the Gore home, it was like coming home. Sitting in their living room was as relaxing and refreshing as a day on the beach, minus the heat. Their home was filled with love and laughter, caring and sharing. God had radically changed their lives and they were not afraid to live it in public.
It was while living in Odessa that my battle with throat cancer began. To give you a glimpse into the heart of Jesse Gore, it was no surprise when I heard he was praying and fasting for me; but what did surprise me was that he additionally felt led to take the Nazirite vow.
The NAZIRITE Vow!!
If you're not familiar with the Nazirite Vow, it's found in Numbers 6. Included in the vow, according to Numbers 6.5, ''All of the days of the vow of his separation no razor shall come upon his head; until the days are fulfilled for which he separated himself to the LORD, he shall be holy. Then he shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.''
For nine months it grew! By the time my treatments concluded and my feeding tube was removed and I received news that there was no sign of the cancer, Jesse resembled Cousin Itt from the Adam's Family show! His wife Penny was grateful that not all Nazirite Vows were lifelong, but limited!
