Exodus 2:23-3:15
INTRODUCTION
Who am I? Who is God?
I'm convinced that everyone, religious or not, is asking these two questions in some way or another.
''Who am I?'' and ''Who is God?''--These are the great questions of humanity.
These are the questions people tend to ask, when life is difficult.... When are backs are against the rope... When we are dissatisfied with how our lives are going... Or worried about how they will go.
Who am I? and Who is God?
If you are here this morning, wondering, what God's purpose is for your life... Or wondering what value you bring to this world... These are the questions you must wrestle with.
John Calvin said, ''All the wisdom we possess consists in two parts. The knowledge of God and the knowledge of ourselves.''
These are the questions that Moses faces in our text this morning. These are the questions that we all face... Do we have the courage to pay attention to the answers? Can the answers to these questions help our lives in any meaningful way?
[Exodus 2:23] During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. [24] And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. [25] God saw the people of Israel-and God knew.
[3:1] Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. [2] And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. [3] And Moses said, ''I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.''
The story picks up, Moses is in the wilderness--''the west side of the wilderness.''
