INTRODUCTION
It's almost that time of year where Hallmark starts playing Christmas movies. There are two people in my life who absolutely love these movies:

My mother-in-law.... And Tony--from my building. Tony is a tough guy Italian/Brooklyn man. He's seen some things if you know what I'm talking about. But every year, he is on our stoop ready to tell us all about the Hallmark movies he has been watching.

But all of these movies follow the essentially the same plotline.
- Hard-working city girl... Has to go to the country against her wishes.
- Sent on a work assignment. She inherits a farm or an inn.
- She doesn't want to go. She's annoyed. Her expensive boots get mud on them.
- Then she meets a small-town fix-it man--Flannel Shirt Guy. He's unimpressed with her fancy wardrobe. She thinks he is low-class.
- But later its revealed that he is either a secret millionaire, or Santa Claus' son.
- And against all odds, they fall in love...
- He proposes on Christmas Eve... They kiss on Main Street (always wearing peacoats and scarves) while the snow falls. Camera pans out, and the credits roll.

But what happens next? What happens after the picturesque wedding?

I've always thought there should be a sequel.... That shows a couple after the honeymoon. Trying to figure out how to join bank accounts. How to figure out where to live. Who pays the bills... Who vacuums the floor... Making decisions about the vacation schedule. What does the mundane, everyday look like in this picture-perfect relationship?

It's not as entertaining... But anyone who has been married for any length of time, knows romance and charm can get you to the wedding day... But it takes something more to maintain a marriage for the long haul. Faithfulness, commitment, humility, honor, submission... Sacrifice.
