Romans 8:18-25
Suffering is a universal experience because of sin in our lives and in our world. No one gets through life without experiencing personal suffering such as: losing a loved one, physical illness, emotional pain, hopes dashed, financial setbacks, or natural disasters such as: earthquakes, fires and hurricanes.
Genesis 2:17 literally it reads, ''The Lord told Adam, in the day that you eat from it, ''dying you will die.'' Original sin introduced suffering, illness and death into the human race which continue.
We should not be surprised by suffering because it is the result of sin and we will continue to live with suffering until Christ returns. It is not something we like, but something that reminds us that we live in a fallen and sinful world every day.
PRESENT SUFFERING :18-22 Comparison :18 Consider (KJB reckon) - Gk. to take into account, or weigh the reasons of one thing against another (:36 KJB accounted). It means that I make this decision after careful deliberation. Our English word logic comes from this Greek word, so it is to think though something before making a decision.
Present sufferings - those which believers were then experiencing. 1. Physically: famine in Jerusalem, property being taken, being put in prison, various diseases or the effects of old age.
2. Spiritually: rejected for their faith by their families or unbelievers in the community and attacks by Satan.
The book of Hebrews was written to encourage believers to stand firm for their faith even though they were undergoing suffering. Hebrews 10:32 Recall the former days when, after you were enlightened you endured a hard struggle with sufferings.
Comparing - Gk. what balances the scales or is of equal value. There is nothing that we suffer in this life which can dim the glory we will experience later. Don't let present sufferings diminish the great glory we will experience in heaven with Chri ...
