In August, as part of my opening words to you, I shared with you my 5 Core beliefs. At that time, I shared with you that, were you to call me as Pastor, these would be my guiding principles & I would ask us, as a church, to embrace them also. For me, they read:
If you, as a Christ-followers and Us, as a church family, are to embrace anything, we should have a doctrinal reason for doing so. So, for the next 5 weeks, we’ll take one each week, hear from God’s word the ‘why’ of each statement, & see how it impact our life.
Today our message is “THE BIBLE IS OUR GUIDEBOOK.” I begin with this truth, “Everyone here has a guidebook of some sort.” Sadly, the guidebook for some is “Facebook” or some other internet source, or even another one. Your guidebook may not be in print, but you have one. The most obvious guidebook we have is what our parents taught us or what our traditions are. As much as I love my departed mom & dad, “They didn’t get it all correct, but the Bible does.”
You may ask, “Why would my pastor take this time for these types of things?” The answer is 3-fold; a) We do what we believe. b) We need to know, recognize, & embrace what we truly believe. c) the Bible will serve us as a plumb line for our life, our work, and our ministry.
I love the Pastoral Epistles because these are Paul’s tender (& last) words to His young preacher boys. Let read our text. (PRAYER)
That last statement is a summary of why the Bible should be our guidebook in all things. That the man/woman/boy/girl of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. What kind of work? Good, as is defined by God. Often, mankind get lost in the good & derails.
