Direct Connect (4 of 10)
Series: Ephesians: Unbelievable
James Merritt
Ephesians 3:14-21
Introduction
1. There is a two-word question that is fun to ask at parties. It is interesting to think about and as you get older you find yourself asking about certain things that happen in life. The question is, ''what if?'' I want to pose some ''what if'' questions to you today:
1. What if the church believed god the way he deserves to be believed?
2. What if the church obeyed god the way he demands to be obeyed?
3. What if the church loved god the way he desires to be loved?
I personally believe the church would look radically different than it looks today. I personally believe the world would look at the church radically different than it does today and I believe the church would radically look at god and the world differently than we look at them today.
2. Most of the time we don't believe ''what-ifs'' could ever happen, but we are going to learn from a prayer god gave to a man named Paul that every follower of Jesus and every church would make them want to go deeper with God and farther with god than we could ever imagine if we make a direct connection with the god that answers prayer. We are in a series in the book of Ephesians that we are calling ''unbelievable.'' there is not a book in the bible that describes more what an unbelievable god we worship or what unbelievable things God has done for us and wants to do in us, with us, and through us.
3. As I was working on this message I got a text out of the blue from a man in our church that I spent a year of my life mentoring. Here is what he said to me,
''What about the transformative power of the cross? Why are we not seeing it? Is it only me? I just do not see the transformational power of God at work right now in people who claim to follow him; I absolutely believe God is still at work, but where and who? Is how do we showcase the power of God transforming people's lives more?''
