Ephesians 5:15-17
Introduction
1. My favorite actor and one of the greatest actors, I think, of all time is Denzel Washington. When he makes a movie, I see it. And though it has a terribly sad ending, one of my favorites is based on a true story called man on fire. It is the true story of a bodyguard who was guarding a little girl who was kidnapped from him and he literally gives his life getting her back. Throughout the movie he has to do terrible things to people to get the clues he needs to find out who has her and where she is.
2. In this one particular scene, he has a man strapped to the back of a car with a bomb. He puts him on a stopwatch to let him know that he only has a short amount of time to tell him what he needs to know. When the man gives him the information he needs, he gathers his belongings to leave and the man plaintively says, ''last wish.'' then, Denzel Washington says this, [show video clip where Denzel Washington says, ''last wish? I wish you had more time.'' you will have to cut the clip quickly since then it shows a guy in boxers.] - talk to pastor
3. How many times in your life do you find yourself saying, ''I wish I had more time?'' the funny thing about getting older is the longer you live the more you find yourself saying that.
4. At the turn of the 20th century, a poem was published by henry twells entitled ''time's paces.'' it is a very short poem. Some of you are familiar with it, but its message is literally timeless. It goes like this,
When as a child I laughed and wept,?time crept.?When as a youth I waxed more bold,?time strolled.?When I became a full grown man,?time ran.?When older still I daily grew,?time flew.?Soon I shall find, in passing on, ?time gone.?
5. One thing we all know and it becomes more relevant and real to us the older we get is that time matters. In fact, today it matters more than it ever has, but it wasn't always ...
