The birth names of the Son of God
For the last few weeks we have been looking at passages of Scripture that announce what the Christ child would be ''called.''
Isaiah 9:6 - His name shall be CALLED, ''Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 7:14 - A virgin will conceive, give birth to a son and will call His name, Emmanuel.
Matthew 1:21 - You will call His name Jesus
Luke 1:35 - He shall be called the Son of God
You know that the world's best-selling book, of all time, is the Bible.
And most of you know that the Bible contains 66 books.
Did you know that those 66 books contain nearly 1200 chapters?
That all those chapters contain over 41,000 verses?
That all those verses contain over ¾ million words?
And it could be said that every one of those words was written to answer the question Jesus asked the Pharisees in Matthew 22:42, ''What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?''
It could be said that every one of those verses was written (in part) to teach the truth the Simon Peter first uttered at Caesarea Philipi, ''Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God.''
Here, Gabriel makes a clear statement about the paternity of Jesus.
He shall be called, ''The Son of God.''
What does it mean that Jesus is the Son of God?
''Son of Mary'' is genealogical title referencing His biology.
''Son of Man'' is a Messianic title referencing His humanity.
''Son of God'' is a Divine title that references His deity.
''Son of God'' simply means that Jesus is eternally, equally, and essentially God. Now, the paternity of Jesus has long been a subject of controversy and criticism. But there are really on 3 possibilities.
