Christmas Glory (2 of 3)
Series: Christmas
Mike Stone
John 1:14-17
In this series of messages, we are looking at Christmas gifts, Christmas grace, and today, Christmas glory. For our text says that when the Lord Jesus Christ was born, mankind beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father.
Today we study a blessed event known as the ''incarnation.'' The word ''incarnation'' comes from two participles, the primary one meaning ''flesh'' or ''meat.'' So, when we speak of the incarnation we are talking about the time where God took on flesh, the meat and the bones of humanity.
That's what we meant when we sang, ''Veiled in flesh, the God-head see. Hail the Incarnate Deity!''
A young teenager by the name of Mary has just given birth to her firstborn son. She can't take her eyes off Him. As she holds Him she remembers the words of Gabriel, ''He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.'' (Luke 1:32-33) Then He spits up on her!
He looks like any other baby, yet, He was not any other baby.
He was Emmanuel, God with us!
God in the flesh. God as a baby!
The infinite becoming finite. Eternity stepping into time
The Most High God condescending to the lowliest of states
In what ways do we see the GLORY of the Father in this newborn Babe?
1. The glory of His fulfillment (And the Word became flesh)
Word = Logos = Promise (You have my word on it)
John MacArthur - ''The Father did not react to the fall with a last-minute fix, before the fall, even before the creation, He predetermined to send His Son as the Savior.''
Ephesians 1:4 - ''Chosen in Him before the foundation of the world.''
1 Peter 1:20 - ''Christ was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for your sakes.''
Revelation 13:8 says - Chr ...
