Introduction:

1. There are 4,200 different official formally recognized religions in the world. In a google search for religious practices there are at least 37,177 religious beliefs. It seems as if the spiritual possibilities in our culture and in our world are endless. It is as if there is a god buffet and you can pick and choose what you like. It looks like it is coming from the same cook, the same restaurant and the same table.

2. Yet, there is a restaurant by the name of Christianity and there is only one item on the menu and it is Jesus. It claims to be the only food that is both good for you and in fact lasts forever. Five-out-of-seven people on planet earth reject that restaurant and refuse that food.

3. A valid question that every Christian should have to answer and every non-Christian should want to be answered is this one, ''why Jesus?''

4. Now to be clear, I am not asking why denominationally - forget Baptist, catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Episcopalian, or none. I am not asking ecclesiological why the protestant church, or the catholic church, or the Jewish synagogue or the Buddhist temple. I am asking ''why Jesus?'' why is it that every other spiritual, mystical and religious leader who has ever lived should be rejected in favor of following only Jesus Christ? Honestly, it is not just ''why Jesus?'', but why Jesus only and why Jesus alone.''

5. Over the next three weeks we are going to be exploring why, because the answer really is easy. There are three things about Jesus that if true, differentiate him not from just every other religious and spiritual figure who has ever lived, but sets him apart from every other person who has ever lived. The three things are:
- His life
- His death
- His resurrection
