Trust God Alone
Stephen Whitney
Psalm 146
Who do you trust? Children trust their parents to care for them.
Parents trust their job to provide for them. Athletes trust their team to take care of them. Society trusts government to care for them.
Trusting anyone but God will ultimately result in disappointment.
There is only One in whom we can safely trust. We can depend upon God who is eternal and faithful to keep all of his promises.
Our confidence and hope must be in him alone.
Note: The last five psalms (146-150) are a doxology to the whole book of psalms. They each begin and end with the Hebrew word
Halleluiah which is translated into English as: ''Praise the LORD.''
PRAISE THE LORD :1-2
The writer calls on everyone to praise or worship the Lord,
Then he calls on himself to praise the Lord along with them.
Soul - Heb. desire, emotion and passion.
Worship is to arise from my heart and mind and soul as a result
of what God has done in my life. Therefore, our emotions are naturally part of our worship which show our love for God.
:2 His praise for God is not a one-time event, but a lifetime of worship because he loves what God has done in his life and
what God continues to do in his life.
Application
1. We should worship God for who he is, not just what he does.
God is worthy of our worship because he is holy and just.
Lord I praise you because of who you are, not just for all the mighty things you have done. Lord I worship you because of who you are. You are all the reason that I need to voice my praise.
2. Worship is to be a continual part of my life, not just an event.
Therefore, it is important that you regularly come to church.
3. Continual worship shows my gratitude for what God has done
in my life and continues to do. I can never thank him enough.
John Calvin - ''As God supports and maintains his people
may they employ their whole life in praising him.''
