*Let's be honest: we like a day off every now and then for sure! A holiday is a really nice thing...especially when life is so busy. These days we've got all sorts of holidays. Of course there's Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, President's Day, Groundhog Day...oh wait. Do we get that day off?* These holidays are good for us. They provide us with a break from everyday life, some offer a time to get together with family and friends and some help us to remember that we have something to celebrate and something to be thankful for. *Do you realize that there's an effort now to change the name of Thanksgiving? There's already been a successful effort in the media to change the name of Christmas to Winter Holiday. No one says Merry Christmas anymore, it's ''Seasons Greetings'' or something like that. But now, they want to change the name of Thanksgiving to be more inclusive. Why? Because the very idea that the Pilgrims were thankful means that they were thankful to a higher power. We can't have any mention of that in our schools or society. They want to change Thanksgiving to Fall Harvest or something like that because Thanksgiving implies that you're giving thanks to Someone; a higher power!* Give me a break! Even though we have so many holidays; and for that we're grateful! It's easy sometimes to miss their meaning. Let's be honest, how easy is it to lose the meaning of Christmas to the clamoring sound of presents, food, travel and family? How easy is it to lose the idea of Easter to the Bunny, the candy and the eggs? It's really easy! How easy is it to lose the idea of Thanksgiving to the Turkey, the shopping and the beginning of the Christmas season. But you see, Thanksgiving is more than a holiday.
