I. Introduction

Welcome to all of our campuses, including those of you joining us online. I'm so glad you're here for the start of a summer mini-series we're calling Praying With Fire. In this series, we're going to be looking at a very famous prayer that Jesus prayed. Some of you may know it as The Lord's Prayer.

This is such a famous prayer that even if faith or church or the Bible has never been a regular part of your life, you've probably heard part of this prayer or maybe even it printed on things. Sometimes weird things. Here's a fun game to play the next time you're in a thrift store. Give yourself 1 point for every item you can find that has the Lord's prayer printed on it. Give yourself 2 points if the item was meant for food. I was a guest at a meal once where we all ate off of plates that had the Lord's prayer printed on them...which was weird, because it was like ''Our Father who art in [mashed potatoes], hallowed by thy [meatloaf]...'' Very weird.

But I think we do that because it's such a popular prayer...and I think it's so popular, in part, because it's so simple. And the reality is that even though prayer seems like it should be simple, a lot of times we find it to be confusing.

And so the simplicity of the Lord's prayer is very attractive. But even though it's so simple, the Lord's prayer has a lot to teach us about how to pray. So over the next two weeks, we're going to dig into this short, simple prayer and learn all that we can from it about prayer.

I believe that whether you've never prayed before in your life or whether you consider yourself a prayer expert, you're going to find some powerful truth in this series. Because prayer is powerful. In fact, let me just go ahead and let the cat out of bag and say this straight up: prayer is the most powerful tool we have.

And the amazing thing is that taking advantage of that power is crazy simple. ...
