Psalm 84
Big Idea: Nothing is better than the presence of God
I. Introduction
Today we're going to hear a powerful teaching from Psalm 84 about desire. And this is so, so important. Did you know that what we desire determines the course of our lives ? Think about it: what you want is what you're looking towards and we inevitably drift towards whatever our eyes are fixed on. So the question is, what do you desire? What do you desire most?
Let's have a little fun. Let's say you're on your way home today and you stopped by a garage sale and, on a whim, bought an old Alladin style lamp. And then, when you get home you think, hey wouldn't it be hilarious if I rubbed this lamp and an actual genie popped out? So just for fun, you rub the lamp and an actual genie pops out. But instead of three wishes, he gives you one wish and says, you've got five seconds to make it. So, what's it gonna be? What do wish for right now?
Chances are that a lot of us, if we didn't have much time to decide, would default to wishing for things like finances or careers or relationships. Maybe healing or health. And there's nothing inherently wrong with any of those things. Those aren't ''bad'' things.
But what if I told you that asking for those things would be a waste of your wish? What if I told you that most of those things are actually a distraction from something much better, something much for valuable that you should be wishing for. And what if I told you that this one, way-way-better thing, isn't just something that you can wish for...it's something you can actually have...today. And it's not going to cost you a cent...because the price has already been paid for you?
Why don't you grab a Bible and make your way to Psalm 84.
