Grace (1 of 3)
Series: Give Thanks

Ephesians 2:4-9

Intro/Attention

This morning I'm beginning a three-week sermon series that will lead to a very important day in the life of our church. I'm going to ask you to begin praying now for November 16th. That's just a couple of weeks away. But I believe that day will be a historic day in the life of our church. I believe it will be the day when we pay off our debt on the buildings and property across the street.

With that in mind, I've planned a sermon series to lead us to that moment. It's a series entitled Give Thanks. It centers upon two of my favorite subjects, giving and Thanksgiving.

You may know that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. And sadly, it's overlooked far too often. Well, I'm going to walk you through three stages of our lives and our existence. If we want to be faithful in giving thanks, we have to be faithful in giving.

So, over the next three weeks we'll talk about three stages that lead to faithful and sacrificial giving: grace, gratitude, and generosity. I have a theory. It's really simple. Christians don't give generously because we're not truly grateful. And we're not truly grateful because we really don't understand grace.

So, over the next three weeks, I'm going to try to build a case for generosity. Not based on a preacher beating you over the head with Malachi 3, which I believe and affirm, but based on our understanding of God's grace and our gratitude as a result.

Today, we begin by thinking about Grace. And honestly, there's hardly a better subject to think about, talk about, or preach about. God's grace is truly amazing. Although we could go to multiple places to find out what the Bible says about grace, today we'll center our thinking around Ephesians 2:4-9. READ TEXT
