Gratitude (2 of 3)
Series: Give Thanks
Jim Perdue
Psalms 86:11-13
This morning, we continue our three-week sermon series that will lead to a very important day in the life of our church. I'm going to ask you to begin praying now for next Sunday, November 16th. I believe that day will be a historic day in the life of our church. I believe it will be the day when we pay off our debt on the buildings and property across the street.
With that in mind, I've planned this sermon series to lead us to that moment. It's a series entitled Give Thanks. It centers upon two of my favorite subjects, giving and Thanksgiving. You may know that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. And sadly, it's overlooked far too often. Well, I'm going to walk you through three stages of our lives and our existence. If we want to be faithful in giving thanks, we have to be faithful in giving.
So, there are three stages. Last week we talked about grace. Today we'll talk about gratitude. And next week we'll talk about generosity. I have a really simple theory. Christians don't give generously because we're not truly grateful. And we're not truly grateful because we really don't understand grace.
So, I'm going to try to build a case for generosity. Not based on a preacher beating you over the head with Malachi 3, which I believe and affirm, but based on our understanding of God's grace and our gratitude as a result.
Today, we begin by thinking about Gratitude. My theory is that we don't give generously because we're not truly grateful. If we were truly grateful, giving would be a natural result of gratitude. READ TEXT
