God, Noah and the Ark
Brian Fletcher
Genesis 6-9
God refuses to give up.
Intro: This morning we will be reading one of the most beloved children's Bible stories...Noah and the Ark. Its a fun story of a man named Noah who was told by God to build a gigantic boat called an ark. Then God told him to gather two of every kind of animal and put them in the ark. Once every one was safe and cozy in the ark, God makes it rain and it rains so much that the earth floods and the ark floats, with Noah, his family and all the sweet fluffy animals. They stay in the ark until the rain stops and then they hop out onto dry land.
But what we don't talk about much to our little ones is how violent a death all the rest of the people on the planet experienced. They were all swept away in the flood and drowned. They died, God judged them for their wickedness and it was one of the most violent events in the Bible.
Why is this violent story in the Bible? Is it even true or is it just a mythical tale?
To be perfectly clear we do not think this is a mythical story but rather a story that actually happened in time and space in history.
But why? Why did God do this? Because God refuses to give up on his creation!
The text tell us:
''The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.''
Even in only several generations away from Adam and Eve the people who had populated the earth had become so evil and so corrupt they were destroying humanity and creation along with it.
God would not sit idly by and watch man destroy himself and what he created. He was not going to give up. God would take a world in complete chaos and bring peace to it and its people.
Isn't that what we all want in life? We want the madness to stop, we want peace. How many times have you said, ''I just want some peace and quiet!''
You are not alone. God too wants peace and quiet. God wants his creatio ...
