Big Idea: The cross satisfies God's anger with what we do and it demonstrates His love for us because of who we are.
Intro: Over the next couple of weeks, I'd like to tell the story of the moments that changed history-the potential to change yours and it has already changed mine. Without these moments, we would not know real love. Over the next two weeks, we'll cover about 3,500 years of history.
Last week we saw our need to understand or be reminded of the importance of the cross.
More than the crosses we wear and the crosses we tattoo on ourselves More than what you think you know about the death and resurrection of Jesus If someone called you out on it, would you be freaked out? If someone called you out on it, would you be able to explain why you believe? This is the motivation to understand and share our faith Some of us can thrive in the debate when it comes to politics Some of us can get excited talking about reality shows Some of us can share stats on our our favorite team I understand that this is my profession that I'm expected to be an expert...Shouldn't we know more than what we think we know about the most important event in history?
Also last week we saw that there is no Easter without Good Friday. There is no empty tomb without the cross.
These two events are actually one event with two stages or phases Phase 1 and Phase 2 or 1a and 1b You could even think of it like peanut butter and jelly (the two go together)
This Easter I'd like to talk about something that we all long for. Perhaps you were expecting us diving into the historic accounts of Jesus' resurrection. Maybe you were expecting me to convince you that the empty tomb is legit. You may even be white-knuckling your chair looking for an exit because even being here is uncomfortable for you.
