Big Idea: The blood of Jesus breaks down barriers. By creating barriers, the implication is Jesus' death and resurrection isn't enough.
Intro: Over the next couple of weeks I want to build off of the statement I made last month in the light of an injustice, which led to racial tension in our country. For some the statement went too far and for others the statement didn't go far enough. My intention was to be clear and centered on Jesus.
Last week I shared a story of a conversation that I had almost 13 years ago in The Home Depot in Dallas, TX and this is how it ended.
Once our manager split us up and called it a night (morning), we didn't say much. It was on my mind until my next shift the next day. It was on my mind to make the relationship right. My tone in the argument only escalated to the direction the conversation was going to go. I couldn't wait to apologize for how I handled myself in our argument, which led to an unexpected cultural conversation. Over the next night we talked at length about what was said. Both he and I were willing to listen to each other. Our conversations lasted a few months as we worked together before he left for another job. Although we ended up agreeing on things, we both saw the world differently-good and evil. I truly believe that we did because the one thing we couldn't agree on was Jesus.
Last week we read read how Jesus lived in a time of racism, slavery/oppression, opposing cultures, sexism, and a form of class system within the Roman Empire. As we went into the story, it was pretty rough in His time-more so than it is now and the reason why is because of the worldwide impact of the US Constitution.
