Big Idea: A great single life exists with understanding singleness as a gift from God for His purposes.
Intro: There are many myths about being single: ''Singleness means alone.'' ''I'm missing out on being known intimately by someone.'' ''My best sex years are wasting away.'' ''I'll never have kids.'' ''Being single means there's something wrong with me.'' ''Singleness is a curse.''
Over the next twenty minutes or so, we'll see that these are myths. The statements mentioned are often said by those who are single or single again.
Without a doubt, there is pain, hurt, and uncertainty for many singles.
Single again: Never expected to be separated or divorced at 40 Never expected to be receiving a text from the person their spouse had an affair with Never expected to sit the kids down and walk through arrangements on when they'll be able to pick them up on the weekends Never expected to bury your spouse after 7 years Grief of saying goodbye to your spouse after 50 years Single: Never expected to be single and 35 Never expected to have three broken engagements Both: The pain of seeing friends get married and start a family The doubt that you'll get married and start a family
I'm going into this message understanding that we have some in our church who are single and those who are single again. I'm aware that being single at 21 is different than being single at 35, 50, or 75. I'm also aware that being single is different than being single again with kids.
I want to be helpful-giving helpful information and context to how God views singleness I want to be honest-giving honest application on how all of us can move forward with singleness as a good thing in our church and even in our culture
