Big Idea: God uses difficult times to reveal the depth of your faith.
Intro: Since the election, which was a few days after we had our first preview service in 2016, there's been so many voices speaking into America's future. Many of the voices trigger fear in people. With fear comes questions.
It's important for me, as a pastor, to do my best to pastor our people. Although I'm not looking for controversy, it's important for me to address some things that y'all have not only been talking about but have asked me about.
When it comes to teaching series, we do our best to listen to what you're going through. I hear it from talking with you before and after services, community group leaders fill me in, listening during my community group, and social media. Our church is filled with those who you have invited and they've stayed...so most of us circle up with those most like us, a tribe per se...so if you're talking about it your friends are probably thinking it.
This will be a little different than most of our Sunday sermons. Our series build on each other while today could be a stand-alone or build to more one-off teachings, like what does Jesus say about the gay community or what does Jesus say about abortion.
Allow me to first start off with a statement about our country. We live in the greatest experiment of all-time-constitutional republic. Out of this comes our freedom and democracy.
Although there are about 180 countries that have freedom as a core value, democracy is not necessarily one of them-it is difficult for both democracy and freedom to take hold and flourish Middle East presents a persistent and difficult challenge China is trying to prove that freedom and economic prosperity do not have to go hand-in-hand Russia is taking the road toward authoritarianism African nations have been inconsistent with democracy Latin America are seeing ...
