You Asked For It

2 Timothy 1:7
Big Idea: The more we understand God the less we will fear.
Intro: We've done this just twice in three years at South Ridge. Each time was different for a couple of reasons: we had different/more people attending, which adds to more questions especially with as many unchurched people we had attending; and, some of us are in different life stages in life and in your faith, which means that growth is happening.
The goal is to give you help and hope. There are some things that I don't know...and I'll say that. Here's the thing...I've been reading the Bible for 25 years and there are still things I don't know. I love opening up the Bible because I keep learning. Something that I've learned over the years has been: the more we/you/I understand God the less we/you/I will fear. We fear what we don't understand or even can't seem to control.
''For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.'' 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
'power' - the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you through the Holy Spirit so that God works through us 'love' - same love that Jesus modeled for us...a love for God the Father 'self-discipline' - it takes discipline to study God's Word...Jesus modeled discipline for us as He would go on prayer and fasting spurts
So we'll jump right in with your questions.
Why did God allow the coronavirus pandemic to happen? This is a question that has been asked through history when something tragic happens. I have no idea nor will I pretend to know why God allowed this to virus to become a pandemic. It's not my place to try and answer why.
In the same breathe, I believe that God never wastes tragedy, pain, and suffering. In the end, God is renewing all things to Himself. He's bringing everything back full circle to a life like Eden-an abundant life as God was everything we needed. Sin broke it up and God is renewing it all as He defeats sin ...
