Our Forever Home (2 of 8)
Series: No Place Like Home
Jeff Geyer
1 Peter 1:3-12
Big Idea: We receive our inheritance from God in three phases. God refuses to abandon the work of His hands-creation and your salvation.
Intro: There has been plenty of change that we've experience since March. As we've dove into this fall, there is still plenty of change that we'll experience. There is school, work, an election, and holidays. On top of all that, there are relationships-marriage, kids, work, school, church. This letter was written to encourage followers of Jesus that hope in our true home empowers us to live Jesus-centered lives in our temporary home. This big idea will be seen through each week as we read through Peter's first of two letters.
Here's my ask as we jump into this series-join a group. All of our adult groups will be aligned for the next eight weeks as we go through this series. Each week there will be discussion questions from the Sunday teaching. We believe that doing a study like this together will strengthen our groups, which will strengthen our church. Having a group of people going in the same direction under the same mission/vision can achieve a lot. Think of a football team...when every one is going the same direction under the same mission/vision winning usually happens.
Tension: Have you ever received an inheritance? It's basically someone who has passed passing onto those who are alive something of value (property, titles, deeds, rights, even obligations).
As I got to thinking about inheritances, I quickly discovered that an inheritance can mean differently to other people. Heirs chosen by a phone book Portugal aristocrat selected 70 random people from a phone book 13 years before his death Some of the beneficiaries were shocked...believed it w ...
