Series: The Problem of God
Craig Smith
Mark 10: 17-18
I. Introduction
Welcome to all of our campuses. I hope you had a great Christmas. And can I just say that I'm really glad you're here this weekend? I know we're all kind of still in the midst of all the Christmas/New Year's craziness, but we're starting a new series this weekend and I'm really glad you're here for the launch of it. This is going to a little bit of a different series than we normally do at Mission Hills and I want to explain why we're doing it. See, there are probably two kinds of people listening right now.
1. First there are #1 - people who have faith and questions. That's probably the largest group. Because I think most of us who have faith still have some questions that we struggle with. Sometimes I think we're afraid to admit that because we think that having questions means we have doubt and we have this idea that can't have doubt and faith at the same time. But that's just not true. Doubt and faith co-exist with each other all the time. It was really cold when I left the house this morning and I had some doubt that my car would start...but I still turned the key...and that's faith. Doubt and faith exist side by side all the time. So if you have faith and questions, you're fine. And maybe they're not even all your questions...maybe you have someone in your life that has questions and you're here hoping that you'll get something that will help them. That's awesome.
2. The second category of people listening to this are #2 - People who have no faith because they have questions. Maybe that's you. Maybe you've got questions and you've never gotten satisfying answers to them and that's keeping you from having faith in God. You aren't necessarily a committed atheist. You haven't settled into unbelief, but you can't quite settle into faith because you're asking significant questions and you haven't been given satisfying answers.
And you know what might be a good ...
