Welcome to all of our locations. I'm so glad you're with us this weekend.
As most of you know, this has been a difficult week in our community. The tragedy at the STEM School this week has rocked our world once again. I think the only appropriate way to respond at this point is in prayer, so I'd like to take a moment right now to just pray for the families and for our community. [prayer time]
On the much more positive side, this is, of course, Mother's Day weekend, so I want to give a huge shout-out to all the moms out there at all of our locations, and joining us from around the world through church online. Moms we love you. In fact, let's do this, if you have a mom that you love, on the count of three lets just shout ''I love you mom''...now if you just want to go to the Mission Hills Facebook page, you can share the link of this broadcast with your mom and say ''that's from me, it went out all over the world...you're welcome. Way better than flowers.''
Ok, so our goal for today is to tackle the problem of God and exclusivity. And let me just start by defining what I mean by ''exclusivity''. Now, at its simplest level, exclusivity means excluding people from a group because they don't share some characteristic(s) that the group all has in common. I will never be able to belong to one of our MOPS groups - that's Mothers of Pre-Schoolers - because I'm not a mother. In theory, I could have belonged to a POPS group - that Pappas of Pre-Schoolers, which we totally need - but I'm actually excluded from that group too, because my kids are not pre-schoolers anymore. Maybe someday there will be a GOPS - a Grandfathers of Pre-schoolers - I could be part of...but you see the point.
