James 1:2
The book of Joshua is all about the CONQUEST of the Promised Land, and how the Lord had appropriated victories for Joshua and His people to bring them into their inheritance. It was God's plan for Joshua and the people of God to come into the blessing God had for them, but it would come one victory upon another. The word CONQUEST means something conquered, especially territory appropriated in war. It wasn't just an inheritance that they just had to lay back and collect on. No. God made it that the promised land was something that they had to go after and take. The land was inhabited by enemies of Israel and Israel would have to fight to come into all that God had for her.
STORY - I remember when I was 11, I started working. My boss was my 12-year-old brother and he delivered Newsday newspapers in our street and several surrounding streets in Long Island, New York. I was his helper and he paid me like $2 per week. Maybe not. We had to do something once a week called ''collect,'' where we would have to knock on the doors of our customers and when they answered, say the word, ''collect.'' I mean, this was not a savvy business practice. It was straight up, ''you owe me for your papers, so pay up, now!'' My brother would always send me to the customers that didn't like to pay or the ones that had the vicious dogs. But I was determined to ''pay the price'' to collect that money because whatever we had collected was to pay for the papers to the Newsday company and whatever was leftover was ours to keep! So needless to say, we had motive to go after our collections! But it certainly wasn't easy.
Did you ever feel like what I want from God never comes easy? Is it just me, or are there times in your life that it seems we have to live in this place where our heart is being checked and our faith is constantly being tested? We know God can do it, but (wow) does it take an awful lot to see ...
