Deuteronomy 7:6
Somebody once said, ''What is the chief purpose of man?'' To which, the answer was, ''Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.'' The 2020 version of this statement would be ''the chief purpose of humankind is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.''
If we were to ask a similar question, ''What is the chief purpose of God?'' That question can be answered in one word - YOU. Everything that God is and everything that God does is for you, His highest creation. All His attributes, His power, His healing, His grace, His mercy, His love are all directed to you, the one He loves most.
STORY - It was probably true for more people than just me, but growing up, many of the fights I had with my brother or sister usually ended with this argument when we presented our case to my mom. ''Mom, Monica scratched my arm.'' To which my sister Monica would say either, ''No I didn't.'' or ''It was an accident.'' To which I replied, ''No, she did it on purpose!''
Monica might not have scratched my arm on purpose, but everything that God does is ON PURPOSE. There are no accidents with God. Could you imagine God saying, ''I accidentally added a billion more stars today to the galaxy.'' NO! God has a purpose in everything that He does. He has a purpose for:
- our lives - you were in the mind of God before you were formed in your mother's womb, and God ordained you with a purpose.
- our marriages - to reflect the relationship between Christ and the Church
- our relationships - to be godly, loving one another as Jesus first loved us
- our occupation - to be the means of His provision in our lives
- our children - for us to raise a godly heritage and legacy
- our church - to bring the good news and the love of Jesus to our community
So far in our study of Joshua, we have seen many purposes of God revealed. Let's go over them briefly:
