The Weight of Glory - Part 2 (2 of 2)
Series: The Weight of Glory
Craig Smith
1 Samuel 4: 12-22
I. Introduction
Welcome to Mission Hills on Grassroots Weekend. This is one of our favorite weekends of the year. Can we give it up for our worship team? They've done an amazing job this weekend and we're so grateful for them. By the way, if you're listening to the podcast right now, which just has the message, you're going to want to go to the Mission Hills page on Facebook and check out the rest of the service because it's been awesome!
Today we're also wrapping up our little mini-series called the Weight of Glory. And I'm pretty excited about what I get to share with you today, because today we get to talk about something so important that I call the search for the source.
See, so often in life, we deal with the symptoms rather than the source. We recognize that we have problems in our relationships, we have problems in our performance at work, we have problems in our progress of becoming like Jesus and joining him on mission. We keep seeing this sin and that sin in our lives. And we deal with it as best as we can. We ask for forgiveness and we receive it. And we resolve to do better, but...it happens again. And over time, that can leave us feeling defeated and distant from God. And often that's because we're dealing with the symptoms rather than the source.
Illustration: I remember once, when both of my kids were pretty little, I started finding marbles all over the house. And every time I found a marble, I would pick it up and put it away...and then I'd find another marble where I had just picked up a marble. And what I finally realized was that my youngest daughter, Lynae, had stuffed about a hundred marbles into her footie-pajamas and they were working their way out of a hole in the ankle. So I called her over...and picked her up by her feet and held her upside down while dozens of marbles poured out of her pajamas.
